George Wallington

George Wallington（本名Giacinto Figlia）は1924年10月27日、シチリア島Palermoに生まれた。父親はオペラ歌手であり、1925年にアメリカに移住した。

1943年から1953年にかけて、Dizzy Gillespie、Joe Marsala、Charlie Parker、Serge Chaloff、Allan Eager、Kai Winding、Terry Gibbs、Brew Moor、Al Cohn、Gerry Mulligan、Zoot Sims、Red Rodney、Lionel Hamptonらと共演し、Savoy、Blue Noteといったレーベルに録音を残している。

1954年から1960年にかけてはDonald Byrd、Jackie McLean、 Phil Woodsといった当時の新人たちを率いてNew Yorkで活動し、Prestige、Atranticに録音を残した。

1960年に活動をやめ家業を継いだが、1984年に活動再開し、3枚のアルバムを残した（"The Pleasure of a Jazz Inspiration "など3作）。

1993年2月15日、Miami州Cape Coralで亡くなった。
